[Bug 375087] New: Provide directory listing for /repodata in addition to, or instead of repoview
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=375087 Summary: Provide directory listing for /repodata in addition to, or instead of repoview Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: BuildService AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: benji@opensuse.org QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: --- I frequently have to download files, patterns, metadata, etc from the repodata/ directory. As repoview is enabled I cannot find the file when using download.opensuse.org (e.g. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Desktop/openS...) I have to use one of the mirrors that does not mirror the repoview to locate the files. It would be nice to be able to use d.o.o. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That way One could see file listings for repodata which has unknown filenames in, and users would be more likely to see repoview. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

(Which is a bit pointless because they have the version and release numbers coded in and constantly invalidate themselves. (Fedora uses a patched repoview which gets rid of the release.)) Couldn't the index.html simply be inside the repoview directory? There it wouldn't harm. Also, moving the repoview directory out of the repodata directory (it has no reason to be there) sounds like a good idea. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It does get handled as well via libzypp. The key is always the same name, "primary.xml.key" or .asc, so it is no problem to download it. zypper and friends do also automatic offer the key import, so this is an independent question of where to host repoview. The default of repoview is to create the web pages in repodata directory (actually there seems no even to be a switch to change this), so this is not something I want to change. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Originally, as reported by Benji, it was about not being able to access individual files in the repodata directory. Of course it is possible to download them because the names are pretty much well known, however there is no means to check timestamps as you normally could if the directory index was there. Also, it is not possible to get a file listing (and see new files that show up like solv files). You said you are not willing to change this because createrepo doesn't support placement of files anywhere else, but createrepo has the following options here: -u, --baseurl <url> = optional base url location for all files -o, --outputdir <dir> = optional directory to output to I would think it is trivial to put the files somewhere else. And short of that, there is actually another alternative (which I suggest), which is to not generate them at all, because they are only in the way. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
