So if you have the src.rpm you can do: rpm -qp --requires foo.src.rpm | xargs sudo zypper in I don't see how can they be implemented without the src.rpm at hand. zypper already supports installing the src rpm for a given package, this requires that you have the src repository added too. You can get the build dependencies by installing it. May be we could modify the srcinstall feature to install everything needed to install but removing the item itself, so you would get the build dependencies only. Too true; however with the patch I knocked up (attached) they do contain the build requires :-) Of course - perhaps that is evil ;-) who should I poke about making this field public ? [ and/or is this a process filled with pure pain ? ;-] With this field easily available in the pkg, presumably then the zypper implementation becomes trivial ? though you'll need to hook out RPMTAG_BUILDREQUIRES = 1109, /*!< internal */ which is an RPM_STRING_ARRAY_TYPE (?). That may be because I do not understand the problem you're trying to solve. So you got the source of a package installed in your system, but you didn't install it with libzypp, so the build requirements are not resolved? Why don't you use the 'build' rpm to build the package in a chrooted environment? So, the use case is that somehow sources (plus a specfile) were installed on the system? What's needed is just a way to query the build requires from a spec file? (Our debian test host seems to be down currently so I can't check.) Zypper could be easily extended to do just this, i.e. look up the source package and install the build dependencies. This should work because most of src packages only contain requires. zypper rev 8768 It can't be tested right now, as libzypp has a problem iterating over Idents which broke source-install command (crashes).
