[Bug 741021] New: New GLIBC version (2.15) causes crashes (seg-faults) when starting Chromium (unscd/nscd related)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=741021 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=741021#c0 Summary: New GLIBC version (2.15) causes crashes (seg-faults) when starting Chromium (unscd/nscd related) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tittiatcoke@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=470912) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=470912) Valgrind log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1005.0 Safari/535.16 SUSE/18.0.1005.0 With the default Factory installation, I get segmentation faults when I want to start Chromium. Sometimes it works, but most of the time I get the segmentation fault. Strangely enough when running chromium under GDB, the segmentation fault is not appearing. I see a similar behavior also with other programs, like ktorrent. Cartman and I spend quite some time to try to get a reproducible crash and a backtrace, but I only managed with Valgrind to get some kind of backtrace. The valgrind log is attached to this bug report. Based on another bugreport around the same issue (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=133021), I checked which version of nscd I have running. Standard installation seems to use the unscd package. After replacing unscd with the nscd package (that comes from glibc itself), the segmentation faults with Chromium have disappeared. Also ktorrent doesn't show this behaviour anymore Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Use unscd on a recent Factory installation with glibc 2.15 2.Install Chromium from network:chromium 3.Start chromium from the konsole Actual Results: 9 out of 10 times a segmentation fault is generated. Expected Results: Chromium starts normally. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
