I rebooted and was connected immadiately. Notice that a first I had no connection setup in knetworkmanager, but adding one don't change anything (still no connection at boot). Changing the IPV6 config ith YaST, as restarting (rcnetwork restart) crashes knetworkmanager applet (crash report on screen) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

ifconfig shows dhcp with no answer.
ifconfig? ifconfig does not know about DHCP ... what exactly do you mean?
rcnetwork restart gives imediate access to the net (and an IP), but stops the networkmanager applet and this last one is not restarted.
The whole bug looks like a NetworkManager problem. Can you please try to disable NetworkManager (YaST -> Network Devices -> Network Settings -> Global Options -> Network Setup Method -> Traditional method with ifup)?
dmesg: [ 45.724321] eth0: no IPv6 routers present may be the problem (repeted several times)
This is harmless. No IPv6 routers were fond on the network. This has no effect at all on the functioning of IPv4. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you want to help find out what the problem is, we need to reproduce it again and I would like you to - re-enable IPv6 - turn on the traditional (ifup) method of network setup insetad of NM (see Comment #3). I suspect this is a NM bug, which is only triggered by IPv6 being enabled. If so, the problem should go away with ifup. If not, it might be a dhclient problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying that without NetworkManager it works (i.e. you get an IP address), but you see a delay? The 19.6 seconds in the dmesg above is unrelated to the network. At 19.6s, the drm was initialized on the graphics card. At 23.9s the network is brought up by the initscripts. I don't understand why "eth0: link up" appears twice. The dmesg will not tell us anything about the DHCP. Can you please attach /var/log/messages? That should contain more info. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Are you saying that without NetworkManager it works (i.e. you get an IP address), but you see a delay?" yes, a delay on the boot process. Boot process is very fast (pressing Esc show little, then the screen blancks and wait) I beg the numbers show dates, so there is 23.9-19.6 s between the two messages. I know things run in //, but at least there seems the delay. It would be helpful to find out why exactly dhclient exits. In common/lfp.c, inside the if_register_lpf() function: - first socket() is called: if ((sock = socket(PF_PACKET, SOCK_PACKET, htons((short)ETH_P_ALL))) < 0) { if (errno == ENOPROTOOPT || errno == EPROTONOSUPPORT || errno == ESOCKTNOSUPPORT || errno == EPFNOSUPPORT || errno == EAFNOSUPPORT || errno == EINVAL) { log_error ("socket: %m - make sure"); log_error ("CONFIG_PACKET (Packet socket) %s", "and CONFIG_FILTER"); log_error ("(Socket Filtering) are enabled %s", "in your kernel"); log_fatal ("configuration!"); } log_fatal ("Open a socket for LPF: %m"); } And then bind(), unfortunately the error message has been copy&pasted and we don't know which one fails: if (bind (sock, &sa, sizeof sa)) { if (errno == ENOPROTOOPT || errno == EPROTONOSUPPORT || errno == ESOCKTNOSUPPORT || errno == EPFNOSUPPORT || errno == EAFNOSUPPORT || errno == EINVAL) { log_error ("socket: %m - make sure"); log_error ("CONFIG_PACKET (Packet socket) %s", "and CONFIG_FILTER"); log_error ("(Socket Filtering) are enabled %s", "in your kernel"); log_fatal ("configuration!"); } log_fatal ("Bind socket to interface: %m"); } Marius is the maintainer of dhcp... Marius, can you have a look? Perhaps build a debug dhcp package where: 1) the error message for bind() says bind: and not socket: 2) the value of errno is printed in both messages 3) the values of info->ifp and the command-line argumets are printed so we know which interface dhclient was trying to bind to and what the options were ... I really have no clue what could be wrong here. Perhaps dhclient screws up and passes something invalid to socket()/bind() and then thinks the failure means PF_PACKET is not registered? Perhaps, the request_module() in the kernel might be broken and does not wait for modprobe to finish? I really don't see how having IPv6 disabled fixes the problem. ifup seems to use dhcpcd instead of dhclient and that one seems to work. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've currently no idea what could break it... Make sure please, the kernel dependencies are up-to-date (depmod -a), the init scripts are started correctly (insserv -d) and the rules in /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modprobe.d/ do not break it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
