[Bug 567321] New: Machine doesn't resume completely and creates high load
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=567321 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=567321#c0 Summary: Machine doesn't resume completely and creates high load Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: stephan.barth@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=334307) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=334307) pm-suspend.log I use pm-suspend directly, because s2ram doesn't know the machine anymore (!). But it worked without problems on 11.1 and 11.2. # s2ram -i This machine can be identified by: sys_vendor = "HP-Pavilion" sys_product = "GU556AA-ABD m9080.de" sys_version = " " bios_version = "5.08 " It seems to hang with starting the sound system. 'rcalsasound start' manually doesn't work as well. The load increases endlessly: Bootup: Fri Dec 25 08:13:36 2009 Load average: 16.02 15.49 13.92 1/297 14946 Bootup: Fri Dec 25 08:13:36 2009 Load average: 16.96 16.25 14.57 1/300 14967 But the system is not running slower. Here is the Oops from dmesg with some context: [53372.801537] PM: Finishing wakeup. [53372.801539] Restarting tasks ... [53372.801628] usb 2-3: USB disconnect, address 2 [53372.807424] done. This is memory corruption. Are you able to reproduce this frequently? If so, can you try to reproduce without the nvidia driver? This is exactly the type of problem that binary drivers are notorious for and I'd like to eliminate it as a source before continuing. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You're going to need to report the problem to nVidia. Even if we could diagnose where the nvidia module was misbehaving, we don't have the code to implement a fix. I'm going to have to close this one as INVALID. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you boot into runlevel 3 (just append "3" on the boot command line, and then try s2ram? It could be getting caught by the black list. If that fails, try s2ram -f? I can't guarantee it will succeed. Your nvidia hardware could still be causing it to fail, but at least we'll be able to see something. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
