I still don't have a firm grasp of OpenSUSE Apper, YaST, zypper, and other related interactions, so please bear with me. My system appears up to date now, and here are the other actions I took to convince Apper the update is complete. If I made mistakes or should check other system information, feel free to suggest/guide: After restarting processes identified with "zypper ps" using "kill -HUP", "kill", and "/etc/init.d/nmb restart", "/etc/init.d/smb restart", zypper seemed happy, but Apper wouldn't let go of pending updates. So I looked around in YaST and tried "Online Updates". I was informed of a conflict which as choice #1 suggested resolving from the OpenSUSE repository (I'm assuming this was setup when I executed "zypper install"). I selected this option. Some "magic" happened and when I reran Apper it was able to clear itself out. I don't feel much wiser about how OpenSUSE tools operate and what I should have done, however both zypper and Apper seem to be content. I'll have to go with this. I'm doing this update now because I'm at a point in my project where I won't get killed if I have to spend extra time sorting out these issues. OpenSUSE is no longer an interesting thing, OpenSUSE is now a tool I rely on to produce. Thank you for your help to get my system up to date and stable. I usually have a lot of windows open on multiple screens, so not having to constantly reboot Linux as earlier MS systems require is a welcome benefit. Kernel updates, usually also requiring display driver reinstall are the exception to not requiring a reboot. OpenSUSE and Linux in general have come a long way since 1995 when I started using Linux 0.x.
