Also discussed here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1106854 Basically the same issue. I'm not very keen in adding an oauth key created from my Google account and make it basically public. Therefore we would need a key from some official openSUSE owner and an agreement with Google that it's allowed to have it public. Not sure if there is even an institution within openSUSE who could take care of that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911611 --- Comment #5 from Episteme PROMENEUR <epistemepromeneur@free.fr> --- i ask a question . i am registered to google . Using FF to access all google services thus to my google contacts i only need to go the gmail web page and use my mail address and password . Using akonadi to access my google contasts i only need my mail address and password . why FF use another way to access to google contacts ? another info : digikam get an extension to export photos to google drive . this extension supplies an assistant for user acquiring a key and using it to open a connexion to google drive . -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

don't know how but you see that opensuse team solved the pb .
I was involved. We are reusing the Chromium key which was apparently given away from Google for that purpose. The key for the Google Contacts sync is something different though. I'll do some investigations during the next days. (In reply to Episteme PROMENEUR from comment #5)
Using FF to access all google services thus to my google contacts i only need to go the gmail web page and use my mail address and password .
Using akonadi to access my google contasts i only need my mail address and password .
why FF use another way to access to google contacts ?
API access is AFAIK not granted via username/password. Google's own webinterface does it but it's not using their contacts api. Akonadi might also use a so called web crawler to access contacts using the username/password. But Google is creating more and more limits on their username/password access and wants to move to "oauth for everything" (there are some references in their blog and other press articles about it). Therefore Firefox does the "right thing" but the oauth nature is _very_ contra productive for open source software applications.
another info : digikam get an extension to export photos to google drive . this extension supplies an assistant for user acquiring a key and using it to open a connexion to google drive .
This sounds like an alternative but is very user unfriendly. It would mean that every non-mozilla-build Firefox user would need to register his own "oauth app" with Google and put this key and token into the Firefox configuration. Currently Firefox does (afaik) not support a user configuration for that though and I also think that it does not scale that way for end users. oauth is a good thing for server-to-server communication and closed software but very hostile to open source software which is built completely in the open :-( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
