Can you capture the boot messages when it fails next time? Is comment#7 "disk/disk/by-id/ata-..." correct or mistyped? I'd expect a leading slash there. Maybe root=/dev/sda2 will work? Anyway, in the picture in attachment 350505, kernel_init() calls prepare_namespace(), which does not happen in the initramfs case.
