[Bug 903525] New: wifi network install fails freezes during installation of 13.2 beta and RC1 for Packard Bell EasyNote TK85
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=903525 Bug ID: 903525 Summary: wifi network install fails freezes during installation of 13.2 beta and RC1 for Packard Bell EasyNote TK85 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 RC 1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: david@kronlid.net QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 Build Identifier: I have a 5 year old laptop of the model Packard Bell EasyNote TK-85 (PEW91), it has no known flaws. OpenSUSE 13.2 beta2 and RC1 fails to install on it because it cannot communicate correctly with the wifi-card in the computer. If I do not unselect automatic configuration(or similar expression), installation hangs during automatic configuration and after a reboot I get the message that installation failed. If I unselect automatic configuration I end up with an installation of OpenSUSE 13.2 RC1 where wifi doesn't work at all, but the rest works fine. When I tested OpenSUSE 13.1 I discovered that the DVD and Net install also creates an installation where WIFI doesn't work, while if I install from the KDE Live DVD, WIFI works fine both in Live mode and after installation. I have also tested other OS:es to see if it is a hardware problem or an OpenSUSE problem. Win 7, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 all install without problems and WIFI works just fine, so the problem is only with OpenSUSE 13.1 DVD, NET and with OpenSUSE 13.2 (beta2 & RC1) all mediums including DVD, KDE Live, and NET. Adding the latest updates from repos during installation doesn't change a thing for the WIFI problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install OpenSUSE 13.2 RC1 on Packard Bell EasyNote TK-85 2a. Do not uncheck automatic config 3a. Setup hangs during the configuration phase after the reboot to hard drive 2b. Uncheck the automatic config 3b. WIFI doesn't work at all after installation is complete Actual Results: 3a. Setup hangs during the configuration phase after the reboot to hard drive 3b. WIFI doesn't work at all after installation is complete Expected Results: WIFI should be correctly detected during installation and should work just fine after installation as it works perfectly in three different versions of Ubuntu Linux. Contact me if you need me to do tests and provide logs or give more details. david@kronlid.net or +46-707164105 or +46-73-2022910. I am no expert yet, but I'm still more experienced than the average as I have been using Linux since the 90-ies, so tell me what to do and I'll do it. (Mainly Debian, Mandrake, Mandriva, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu and Android, but also Mageia and Fedora a little bit.) I might possibly also be able to send you the hardware if you send it back speedily, but I prefer not to as the transport might damage the equipment if I'm unlucky. Instead I would prefer to give you a SSH login to a clean install of 13.2 RC1 if you have to do some testing and modifications yourselves without me as an intermediary. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have the same problem but with a medialink MWN-USB54G. ans I don't have access by cable to Internet. Any alternative? Download into another computer? Download from direct dvd? Buy another card without restriction? Please HELP.
if you cannot get network any other way, you would need to read install_bcm43xx_firmware you can probably download things elsewhere and copy them over USB... or you get a non-broadcom WLAN device -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
