[Bug 830469] New: harddisks don't spin down by themselves
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=830469 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=830469#c0 Summary: harddisks don't spin down by themselves Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: andreas_nordal_4@hotmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0 `hdparm -S 255 /dev/sdX` should let an unused harddisk spin down after 21 minutes + 15 seconds. It doesn't. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a harddisk /dev/sdX that is not mounted 2. hdparm -S 255 /dev/sdX 3. Wait 22 minutes Actual Results: Harddisk is depleting its lifetime spinning. Expected Results: Harddisk is spun down (stopped). This used to work with previous releases, with the same hardware as I have now. I have lots of different Western Digital harddisks. Presumably some process is polling the harddisk. My suspicion is presently at udisksd, which wasn't there back in the days when it worked. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

May be related to bnc#816388. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If so, what can be done with this? Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Try to assign it to systemd team, udisks are part of systemd now IIRC. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
