I tried upgrading to the latest drivers in X11:Drivers:Video but it made no difference. Will attach Xorg.0.log along with hwinfo --gfx. Incidentally, the laptop in question in my wife's and since she needs to be able to use it, I've re-installed 11.1 on it. Radeonhd driver was working quite well in openSuse 11.1 but it is broken in OpenSuse 11.2. The screen flicks every few seconds (like broken old TV).
