I tried downloading eclipse 3.3.1 from eclipse.org, which is the version we use in Designer currently, and was unable to launch that either. Designer is working fine on openSUSE 10.3 64-bit. In 11.0 is a default openjdk, so that's maybe a reason of the fails.
