The installation Process freezes. The same problem exists since opensuse 10.2. Opensuse 10.2 didnt recognize my sata drive. 10.3 could be installed, but after the installation, the freezes with the exception emask error occured. A small Solution were the bootoptions "nolapic irqpoll". But with this solution, the vaio vgn a617b was very slow and it was possible that the system "lost" the harddisk. I expected Opensuse 11 to fix this Problem, but the Problem is still alive. :( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's strange as both cases use the same driver. It's more likely the drive checks out when subjected to heavy load. Can you please do the followings after booting with a live CD? 1. Post the result of "lspci -nn" 2. Post the result of "hdparm -I /dev/sda" 3. Post /var/log/boot.msg 4. Run "mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdaX" as root and see whether it causes the reported problem. Note that the command will destroy the specified partition. 5. If the problem occurs, post the result of "dmesg". It becomes a bit difficult to track the bug with such large output inlined. So, nothing wrong w/ live CD, strange. It uses exactly the same kernel. Can you please retry DVD install? When the install freezes switch to vc4 (ctrl-alt-f4). You'll be able to see what the kernel is doing while frozen. Can you please report what the kernel says? You can do it by one of the following methods. 1. Switch to vc9 (alt-f9), plug in a usb stick, mount it under /mnt and "cp /var/log/boot.msg /mnt; dmesg /mnt/dmesg.out; umount /mnt" 2. If you have another machine, start SSH installation by specifying "usessh=1" at the installer boot prompt. It will ask for ssh password and network configuration during boot and you'll be able to start installation using ssh tunnel. You can open a separate ssh session and dump /var/log/boot.msg and dmesg output.
