Just a black screen. The default screen is much too large, it switches to 1280x1023 after the inital VGA screen of the emulated BIOS is shown. No idea where it gets the idea from that this resolution has to be used. If seems the native resolution is too large. You could try in grub2's command line with "videoinfo" command, it will list all video modes probed. We could make a better propose, that is not use 'auto' for HVM guest and hand pick a reasonable value from a known list .. The question is any way to know now is HVM guest ?
