ATTRS{} instead of ATTTR{} seems wrong to use, and is not what udev does.

This should be also fixed in sysconfig package - because YaST network is not executed during upgrade

Can you try to find any 30-net_persistent_names.rules* files in /etc and provide me a listing and the place where it where?
What I currently see, is that the convert_persistent_name_rules as well as the spec file is using absolute file names... AFAIK not a good idea.

--- Comment #31 from Scott Couston - Resigned No Confidence alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au 2009-12-13 16:53:42 UTC --- Well Done! The preceding BUG issues STILL exist AND are made worse in 11.2. Establishing a static IP via Network Manager during Installation is perilous. The following further faults are now evident during a Non-Automated Installation, which Must be used to establish a Static IP. You do not have to delay/stall fixing this module another 8 months by repetitively asking for installation Logs; they will not help nor will be provided with 100% reproducible faults and the magnitude of errors now present, as they are ALL STILL 100% reproducible.
1.Commence a non automated KDE Installation. 2.At the installation phase of that configures an IP use the following. 3.Elect to use a static IP and configure the same and include 2 x DNS IP server addresses and a gateway IP address and complete. 4.Now change to Network Manager. 5.You are now forced again to re-establish the static IP details, as choosing Network Manager after you have configured them will obliterate the values back to DHCP. 6.Go back and re-apply the static IP values that were inserted before you changed to Network Manager 7.Complete and move to the 'test' Internet connection phase of Installation It will indicate FAILURE, but will provide NO log file details as to why – they are empty on Viewing. 8.Ignore the FAILURE result and proceed to configure update repository and perform and online update with TOTAL success on connecting to the Internet. 9.Note now, that a static IP HAS been configured under YAST with Network Manager during Installation, however, now it is impossible to use YAST to change any values 10. It is NOW impossible to use kde's Network Manager Interface as the IP was created under Network Manager during YAST Installation. 11.It is also NOW impossible to add another Network interface via Network Manager, in fact by the KDE Network Manager show ANY NM interface exists! 12.It is now impossible to change to a static IP under IFUP! 13.In fact I am not sure, which Vehicle IS providing a valid static IP connection!
If I - had put this Module up Online as a senior staff – I would have lost my job in 24 hours of this Bug reaching QA and I think your non-action/increased errors make yours tenuous. For the Critics – Now I am not being 'Passive Aggressive' – I am down right aggressive! My last Bug insertion as I have NO confidence in this ever being fixed please do NOT downgrade below CRITICAL!

Yast Installation Process lets you configure NM in Yast but after no changes can be made for obvious reasons. ALL other KDE Network Management tools are useless as they do not see the interface. No VPN no nothing and the user is helpless to edit. Just revert things back to 11.0 when this DID work until we remove NM from Yast in 11.1-11.2 - what a functional disaster

Yast Installation Process lets you configure NM in Yast
YaST2 basically creates sysconfig/netcontrol ifcfg-ethX files during the installation and NM provides a script, that is able to make an _initial_ _import_ of configurations for physical interfaces.
but after no changes can be made for obvious reasons. ALL other KDE Network Management tools are useless as they do not see the interface. No VPN no nothing and the user is helpless to edit. Just revert things back to 11.0 when this DID work until we remove NM from Yast in 11.1-11.2 - what a functional disaster
We have two network stacks. Both provide different functionality. Use the NetworkManager configuration wizard and an nm plugins to configure NM related things. We will not revert anything, because NM and netcontrol (alias ifup provided in sysconfig package) conflict with each other.

It might be of additional help if the update should performs something like
sed -i -e 's#ATTRS{address}==#ATTR{address}==#g' \ /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
to the file in question.
I'm not sure if the file is named the same way on all products.
Well, the above is not sufficient. To not to break more than already happened, it would be required to write a script that evaluates at least all ifcfg files, collects the (MAC matches by default) and creates/corrects the rule properly. The chance to break it is quite high.
Workarounds are: a) correct with vi, b) correct in yast2 network, c) remove the rule file and reboot. the generator creates them again, chance that same rules gets created is quite high. When not, b).

Hi Marius,
thanks for the update. As I understand in our call this bug is not really fixed/not completely fixed.
The typo in the conversion scripts are fixed. What is not fixed is the rule file that has been converted by the buggy script.
Basically, the (fixed) conversion problem occurs only, when there is an active 30-net_persistent_names.rules file as on a <= 10.2 system, that should not be there (already converted and disabled by all the earlier sysconfig RPM installations) on all systems since 10.3.
I've no idea where this file were from on your 11.1 system - I think, it has been restored from backup or something like this.
I do not think, I have to fix more here than I already did.

Karl, please add a section regarding /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and changed NIC device names to the release notes of 11.2 and the upcoming openSUSE version.
The conversion script is fixed via update as well as in openSUSE:Factory:
Fri Dec 4 11:28:20 CET 2009 - mt@suse.de [...] - Fixed typo in convert_persistent_name_rules script causing to generate persistent name rules on update, not matching MAC address (bnc#546575).
so it can't happen in any upcoming openSUSE version and IMO no release note is needed for any upcoming version. I'll also drop this and all the another obsolete update scripts in the next cleanup.
When such problem happens again, then because of an another reason/bug.
==>> To avoid this problem at all, add the update repository as additional installation source during the installation. That is, when updating 11.1 to 11.2, add 11.2 updates repository.

Do you think I should add this info to the 11.2 release notes ("... add the update repository as additional installation source ...")? I fear it is too late now.
