https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=251011 ------- Comment #26 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-03-14 13:18 MST ------- OK, here it comes. Astonishingly enough it worked. So if you want to, you can let me have your patch for 236774, so I can try and gather some more information there. Only with the patch in place, there are so many messages generated, even with the MSPD not in place, that I can't provide a dmesg with the full information. Probably it can be tuned for a bigger size, but I have no idea how. Attached find the dmesg after booting WITHOUT the MSPD inserted, the a dmesg after pulling the first dmesg and then inserting the MSPD. Also, be aware that this kernel is based on 2.6.20.2-2 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=251011 ------- Comment #38 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-03-15 07:34 MST ------- OK now, the thing is called "haldaemon", there is a copy sitting in /etc/rc.d and one in /etc/init.d You can start / stop the service as you suggested or by issuing service haldaemon start | stop | status which I prefer. ps -A | grep hal shows: 13291 ? 00:00:01 hald 13292 ? 00:00:00 hald-runner 13299 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-cpuf 13300 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-acpi 13301 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyb 13306 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyb 13307 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyb 13308 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyb 13309 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyb 13330 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-stor There seems to be a vast misconception among SuSE programmers about naming conventions, I already complained about that in Bug 223045 As far as I understood it, there should be a "d" appended to the name of whatever program is established as a service. So "hald" would be fine, while "haldaemon" is not. In addition it should be listed under ps -A under the name the binary or script carries, not another thought fancy name. likewise "irqbalance" should be called "irqbalanced" ( as it is rightfully called in its text ) and not "irq_balancer". Maybe you can address this issue among your colleagues, as this causes a lot of confusion. (Not only to me) P.S. I am still curious as to what /usr/sbin/hald might be ??? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

To do so it 1) processes hotplug events 2) polles devices which don't cause hotplugs when plugged in Number (2) includes media in USB storage devices. The device itself cause an event, but the media doesn't therefore there are hundreds of events in the logs instead of just one which you could cause eg. by doing "fdisk -l" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
