https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=358335 Summary: openSUSE 10.3 does not recognize monitor of HP Pavilion dv6530ew laptop Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: HP OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: registration@grek.tuffmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- My installation of openSUSE has NVidia drivers (169.09_2.6.22.16_0.1-0.1) and was updated tody but it still does not recognize LCD monitor of my HP Pavilion laptop. That forced me to set it as generic type and manually figure out its resolution. Moreover, another issue is the fact that I cannot adjust brightness of the monitor using standard keys. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A generic monitor is assumed in this case to be on the safe side. This is the reason why you need to set it up manually. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I know that my monitor has not been detected and that's exactly what I reported through this bug report. In my opinion giving advice like "set geometry of your monitor manually" in XXI century is rather weird. If there are no drivers for my monitor it doesn't make my bug report invalid, right? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Only drivers for the graphics card. In case sax2/hwinfo does detect the monitor via DDC, we can set up the monitor automatically, otherwise we can't, so you need to set it put manually. I'm sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I understand that there is some problem with type detection of my monitor but it would be helpful if you could tell me who is to blame for this situation? From your answers I can read that you state it's not openSUSE's fault so whose is it? I want to know this in order to create a bug report in correct place. So unless the configuration duplicates some code of the video driver (which is not the purpose of the config tool) the panel size cannot be detected. As far as I know DDC for laptop panels is rather new, and appearently not available for your laptop. So there is nobody to blame. Is it really that difficult to adjust your laptop resolution? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
