[Bug 207874] New: Matrox X driver kills framebuffer consoles
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207874 Summary: Matrox X driver kills framebuffer consoles Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: tilman@imap.cc QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com SuSE Linux 10.1 Professional retail version running on a 700 MHz Intel Pentium III, Asus P2B-S board, Matrox G550 AGP graphics adapter, Acer AL1716 LCD connected via DVI. Text console set to 1280x1024 resolution via kernel parameter "vga=795", works fine. Configured X with "sax2 -r", X works fine, too. However, switching from X to back text mode doesn't work fine at all. If I switch from the X console to one of the text consoles with alt/ctrl/F1 .. alt/ctrl/F6, my monitor tells me "no input signal" and goes to sleep. The system continues to run normally, the keyboard works too - I just can't see anything. Switching back to the X console with alt/F7 wakes the monitor again showing the X desktop. Similarly, when I reboot the system, as soon as the X server is terminated, instead of the text console appearing I get the monitor's "no input signal" message. The system shuts down normally, except that I don't see anything. As soon as the BIOS reinitializes the graphics card, I see the normal boot-up screen image again. If I set text console resolution to standard VGA 640x480 instead (kernel parameter "vga=normal") the problem disappears, and switching between text and graphics works correctly. (But of course the display doesn't look very nice, not being the monitor's native resolution.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

We cannot easily fix this issue for all scenarios. :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
