[Bug 308981] New: Sound vanishes after 30 ~ 60 seconds playback ASUS BG16E
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=308981#c235275 Summary: Sound vanishes after 30 ~ 60 seconds playback ASUS BG16E Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 3 Platform: i386 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: fbourdonnec@chez.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Hi, Maybe related to bug #235275, same sound chip & driver. 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03) The playback is fine for a short period sometime (2 minutes, a maximun!) Just before total extinction, you ca ear a big distorsion coming. Took one to five seconds, ~same when you shift your FM tuner to another freq. The cpu freq fixed (to max) do nothing Absolutly fresh vanilla install from CD 10.3 beta3. Hardware is ASUS BG16E (A6E) Works perfectly with UBUNTU 7.04. & suse 10.1 Same problem with 10.2 with recompiled kernel and alsa version 1.0.13/14/15 I'm pretty sure it is only affecting suse kernels since version "2.6.16.21" When I use this kernel found somewhere on suse, problem appears. With "2.6.13-15", it is fine. I CAN add some debug "printk" and recompile the module intel8x0.c if needed. rmmod insmod of intel8x0 fixes the problem for another 30 seconds period. But not everytime. You MUST ear the small plop to be sure is will be ok (insmod snd_intel8x0) Also note: "rmmod snd_intel8x0; modprobe snd_intel8x0" will never work. Mandatory delay before reloading. Module reports absolutly no errors in any case.
