I somehow doubt it. If not, loading random drivers might not be a good idea. Does it get loaded automatically, or are you loading it manually? If so, loading random drivers might not be a good idea. ;-) We should switch the module to "unsupported", that should take care of it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=224522 ------- Comment #7 from tarnold@novell.com 2007-01-09 11:16 MST ------- Oh Sorry. I didn't realize your last post. I don't think that these machines have a mda card. The problem appeared during one of our standard kerneltests. A little script which detects available kernelmodules and loads and unloads all of them. It only checks whether module loading works fine. It is not an error, if a module can't be loaded due to missing hardware, but I think no machine (or its ttys) should freeze because of loading the wrong module. Have a look at the script: /suse/rd-qa/rd-qa-kernel/misc/try_modules.sh -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In reality, we don't, as you have found out. This is just a fact of life for now, and unless we want to take on a lot of engineering resources just to fix up these issues, it is not going to be fixed. Especially as these are issues that have been known by the core kernel developers for a very long time, and the fact that no customer ever sees these problems. If you want, I would suggest that you log these kinds of things against the upstream kernel.org kernel by filing bugs at bugzilla.kernel.org so that maybe the issues do get fixed and we will pull them in automatically for the next release. So, because of this, I'm going to close this bug out. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

i`d don`t know if it really takes that much ressources and if it isn`t worth fixing it, though. i`m doing module/load unload tests on a regular basis and catch the one or other bug/oops with that, but from more than 2000 modules there are really really few, which actually seem to mess up something. i hardly can remember, which ones, actually i only know two: mdacon and cfag12864bfb actually, i`m trying to get the mdacon issue fixed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
