[Bug 777531] New: client mount of cifs share fails if sec=ntlmv2 is set
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=777531 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=777531#c0 Summary: client mount of cifs share fails if sec=ntlmv2 is set Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba AssignedTo: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de ReportedBy: Greg.Freemyer@gmail.com QAContact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1 I just did a zypper dup upgrade from 12.1 to 12.2 on my workstation One of my 3 CIFS shares no longer mounted after the upgrade. This was the fstab entry: //10.0.1.44/data /T cifs sec=ntlmv2,user=xyz,pass=asdf,noperm,dir_mode=0777,rw 0 0 The /var/log/messages file shows: Aug 27 13:25:56 tiger3-64bit kernel: [ 9040.272188] CIFS VFS: bad security option: ntlmv2 Removing "sec=ntlvm2," makes it work. I don't know if that is a bug, or if ntlmv2 support has truly been dropped. I'm running the latest 12.2 kernel.

This mount option has got accidentally omitted during the mount option overhaul. This has been fixed upstream by the below commit. commit 7659624ffb550d69c87f9af9ae63e717daa874bd Author: Jeff Layton <jlayton@redhat.com> Date: Mon Jul 23 20:34:17 2012 -0400 cifs: reinstate sec=ntlmv2 mount option sec=ntlmv2 as a mount option got dropped in the mount option overhaul. This has been fixed upstream and this patch has been marked for stable already. So, I think this fix should be included in the next RC. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The fix has already made it to the 12.2 repo during 3.4.8. Currently, this can only be tested by using the kernel from the daily kernel build: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Kernel:openSUSE-12.2 However, be warned that this is an intermediate kernel between RC's and so may or may not be stable. The other option would be wait till next RC.
