[Bug 939411] New: Leap 42.1 Milestone 1: Prompted for LUKS encryption key, but system did not read keyboard
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=939411 Bug ID: 939411 Summary: Leap 42.1 Milestone 1: Prompted for LUKS encryption key, but system did not read keyboard Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201505* Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: nwr10cst-oslnx@yahoo.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.21 (KHTML, like Gecko) konqueror/4.14.9 Safari/537.21 Build Identifier: This is for Leap 42.1 Milestone 1 (I did not find a category for that). I installed using the DVD installer. That went well enough. For install, I put "/" on its own partition "/dev/sdb". I used swap and home from an existing LVM, though I mounted that home as "/xhome". On reboot, I was prompted for the encryption key (via plymouth). But it was not responsive. It seemed to not be reading the keyboard. It just hung. There's probably something missing from the "initrd" though I am not sure what. The encrypted LVM was used only for swap and "/xhome". Those should not be essential. It should have been able to get past that and still start the system even without the encryption working. But, instead, it stopped there. On a later check (after the power off), the root file system was clean. So it either had not been mounted at all or had been mounted read-only. I suspect that it wasn't mounted at all. As a work-around, with a rescue boot, I commented out the lines that use the encrypted LVM. I then rebuilt the "initrd". I was then able to boot. And then the keyboard worked fine, so I could manually decrypt and manually mount. Reproducible: Always -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
