[Bug 633447] New: Update Installation from 11.2 to 11.3 fails with unbootable system
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633447 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633447#c0 Summary: Update Installation from 11.2 to 11.3 fails with unbootable system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vbargsten@freenet.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=384623) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=384623) zypper log of installation User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100626 SUSE/3.6.6-1.2 Firefox/3.6.6 Initial state: opensuse 11.2 Update via installer stopped at ~90% of package installation with OK-messagebox saying that ~"command has faild with code 5". When I clicked OK, the gui-installer exited to the text mode one. Starting the gui installer then (again), the system was not found on partition. Grub has not been updated, however the initrd and vmlinuz symlinks could be used to start the system via grub console. I fixed grub then and restarted the installer for update which found the 11.3 system. Some packages installed and the installation finished; however, I am not sure all the packages are what they show in yast / if they have been really installed/updated or if they are just in package db. I found the log of failed install in /var/log/zypp/, see attachment Seems fetchmsttfonts is the cause; in my eyes the installation should go on in such case I used the repos oss, update, addon, packman, vlc Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: see details Actual Results: unbootable system Expected Results: update finishing and bootable system -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In this case, installation was done using autoyast, with the standard oss repository, the non-oss repository and the update repository added. Fetchmsttfonts runs chrooted. In the chroot jail /etc/resolv.conf is empty. This causes fetchmsttfonts not to find any servers and it exits with error 5. This aborts the installation with a fatal error 5 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Looks like Yasts error popup needs to add buttons to support ignore and retry, not just abort. @Markus: If fetchmsttfonts is not runable in 1st/2nd stage, maybe the script can somehow catch this condition and report it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
