[Bug 997465] New: Leap does not recognize Tumbleweed any more
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=997465 Bug ID: 997465 Summary: Leap does not recognize Tumbleweed any more Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: jsrain@suse.com Reporter: GeoBaltz@gmail.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- With the removal of /etc/SuSE-release from TW, Leap's grub2-mkconfig no longer recognizes a TW installation. On my dual boot laptop (Leap 42.1 and TW 20160901), I have the grub2 menu now offering 'unknown Linux distribution' for the TW partitions. Please, either smarten up grub2-mkconfig to actually parse /etc/os-release, or put back the openSuSE-release. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Why did the Tumbleweed devs create symlink to /etc/os-release. This symlink is the problem. Why not add a patch that will read /usr/lib/os-release?
Thanks for the info, now I see where the problem is .. :( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So are you saying that the package contained in the repos below does not fix the issue? If so we will need to re-visit the pending maintenance update.
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Maintenance:/5658/ openSUSE_13.2_Update/ http://download.opensuse.org/update/13.2-test/
It does fix but not completely for new /etc/os-release a symlink. Could it be revoked ? I am sorry for causing you the trouble. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The bug still exists in openSUSE Leap 42.3 build 0246.
Thanks for confirming, it is expected. (In reply to Michael Chang from comment #45)
I think this better be reassigned to maintenance team handling the release of the patch. Thanks.
Maintenance team can't do this until 42.3 until is released. The copy of the SLE maintenance update to Leap 42.3 will happen automatically when it has been released for SLE, which should happen any day now. Leap release team can workaround if desired. Closing as there is no further code action. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The symlink of os-release has been replaced with a regular file with the same name in Leap 42.3.
I think it did not get replaced again but was kept in openSUSE-release package for 42.X. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
