This would satisfy the dependencies for packages such as kile and the like. But the more I think about it it would seem simpler *and* better to entirely remove the TeXLive dependencies from any of those packages and instead pop up some interactive note to the user that it is necessary to manually install a LaTeX distribution in order to be able to work away. This could be the older TeXlive 2007 which is included as RPM on the installation media or the officical 2008 edition with its own installer. I see lulatex is part of texlive-bin but it should be part of texlive-bin-latex. Yes, but only *lualatex, luatex itself should remain in texlive-bin.
A own texlive-bin-lulatex is to small IMHO. I agree.
Regarding ConTeXt: For some reason the following file exists twice: /usr/share/texmf/scripts/context/stubs/unix/luatools /usr/share/texmf/scripts/context/lua/luatools.lua where the latter seems to be slightly newer. Also currently "luatools" does not find the TEXMFCNF directory (missing symbolic link resolution). Can one set the variable export TEXMFCNF=/usr/share/texmf/web2c in /etc/profile.d/texlive.*sh as temporary work around? It should not cause any interference with other TeX users and can be overridden by the user. With that variable set, one can do: # export TEXMFCACHE=somewhere luatools --generate # --verbose luatools --ini --compile cont-en I'm not sure whether one should do something like that by default or whether one defers this to the user. Maybe one should go for the latter for the moment. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Q: Why the kpathesea lib isn't used?
Frankly, I don't know; in principle it does not matter whether KPSE or some different technique is used. (I don't know whether "luatex" itself uses KPSE or not). The problem here seems to be that "luatex" itself has the search parth for texmfcnf.lua / texmf.cnf compiled in, but luatools is not compiled - after the config file has been found, everything should work fine, including using the "ls-R" files. Regarding KPSE: One can also use something like the following: + -- First try to find the config files with KPSE + kpse.set_program_name('luatex') + local kpse_result1 = kpse.find_file(input.luaname,'cnf',true) + local kpse_result2 = kpse.find_file(input.cnfname,'cnf') + if kpse_result1 or kpse_result2 then + if kpse_result1 then + table.insert(instance.luafiles,kpse_result1) + end + if kpse_result2 then + table.insert(instance.cnffiles,kpse_result2) + end + end I try to figure out with Hans Hagen which is the (for him) acceptable way of fixing this; I'm fine with either the "/bin" hack or with the KPSE solution above or with doing posix.readlink. However, the KPSE solution seems to be the cleanest to me - especially as it will work as expected if one simply adds $HOME/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

IMHO all paths including the path to the configuration file and also the path to $TEXMFLOCAL, $TEXMFSYSCONFIG, $TEXMFCONFIG, $TEXMFMAIN, and $TEXMFDIST should determind by using KPSE .. otherwise the KPSE will become useless and the paths are hardcoded.
I don't see the need for the other paths as they are set in the config file; and whether one reads the cnf file using texlua or via kpse does not really matter. For finding the config file, one has to hardcode - or use some pseudo-intelligent algorithm as luatools.lua does. I see the reason for not using KPSE which is very inflexible, slower and does not support reading of files in ZIPs, from URLs etc. I'm also quite agnostic how to solve this, whether using KPSE as my patch did, hard coding of the paths (as done for the binaries/kpsewhich in "source.dif"), or using Hans' search algorithm as long it works (most of the time). (Hans rules out that he will KPSE, if you want you can join the ntg-context mailing list and discuss there.) Independent of the kind of solution, I would like to see a working "luatools" in openSUSE's TeX Live 2008. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The question is now: why does that happen? There is no reason to not install the 32-Bit devel version of libpng. I guess that libtool does something wrong here: for no good reason the two paths I mentioned above point to /lib and /usr/lib rather than to /lib64 and /usr/lib64. If you change this during compiletime (early enough, just after libtool in the texk-directory has been generated) things work, too. What kind of a bug is this? Should I report to Karl Berry? To the libtool maintainer? My bug (but cannot think of having done something not permitted though it showed in fact that I did so ....)
