[Bug 966449] New: Leap xen crash on start
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=966449 Bug ID: 966449 Summary: Leap xen crash on start Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: jdd@dodin.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I try for now several days to install xen on a Dell Optiplex 755 with 6Gb ram and two ssd. I install Leap - I tried everything between minimal install to kde - then I go to Yast virtualization and add xen and xen tools. YaST creates the xen menu entries. Leap - without xen starts without problem, but the xen menu entry stops very soon in the boot proces, leaving an active (the monitor do not complain), but black screen. There is no journal written, journalctrl do not show anything for this boot. On one of my tests, I videotaped the boot. The last image was: http://dodin.org/owncloud/index.php/s/BH9qjCX7Xya8fXq on an other test, I could see very shortly something like systemctl target init. Here an other videotape http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/112289-00000/category/5970 this computer is for now reserved to this test, so I can do almost any thing useful to debug this -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created attachment 665536 [details] journal for xen boot on dell 755
journal for boot with VT I/O disabled.
You will see that many modules lack, may be this is why xen do not start with VT I/O enabled [snip modules]
afaict, the same modules are not present on e.g. 13.2 either, but there I also see no attempts to load them. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please download an install the following RPMs for your os42.1 host:
xen-4.5.2_06-5.1.x86_64.rpm xen-libs-4.5.2_06-5.1.x86_64.rpm xen-tools-4.5.2_06-5.1.x86_64.rpm
from this location,
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Virtualization:/openSUSE42.1/ openSUSE_Leap_42.1/x86_64/
Once installed set the following hypervisor boot flag.
Edit /etc/default/grub and add, GRUB_CMDLINE_XEN_DEFAULT="iommu=no-igfx" and then run, grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
Reboot the host and select the xen menu entry. Please report your results.
On my test system (Fujitsu desktop), this was a significant improvement. During boot-up, I only needed to press enter once or twice, and once during shutdown. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Uh, correction - it did require hitting enter several times to complete a shutdown/reboot. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you explain what you are seeing that requires hitting the Enter key several times? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

"requires" is perhaps the wrong word. I'm at the physical box with a console, and during boot-up or shutdown, it appears to just halt every so often. Hitting enter makes it continue. Then it halts, I hit enter etc. Without hitting enter, boot-up or shutdown never finishes. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

To be honest, unless you're convinced this is still the same underlying problem, I'd really like to ask to not mix multiple issues into a single report.
Yes, you're right. I'm not 100% convinced, but initially the symptoms seemed to be very similar. I'll open another report on my problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
