[Bug 247294] New: yast2-theme-openSUSE contains copied icons from KDE hierarchy
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247294 Summary: yast2-theme-openSUSE contains copied icons from KDE hierarchy Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: sh@novell.com ReportedBy: stbinner@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: kde-maintainers@suse.de, stbinner@novell.com KDE is moving to /usr prefix. The following files conflicts between kdebase and yast2-theme-openSUSE packages then occur: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/ktip.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/ktip.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/kuser.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/kuser.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/kuser.png The YaST theme is free to use icons originating from KDE but has to use other icon names (ideally ones describing what the icon shows). Btw, yast2-theme-openSUSE seems to install them to a different location too: /usr/share/YaST2/theme/openSUSE/icons/32x32/apps/ktip.png /usr/share/YaST2/theme/openSUSE/icons/48x48/apps/ktip.png /usr/share/YaST2/theme/openSUSE/icons/22x22/apps/kuser.png /usr/share/YaST2/theme/openSUSE/icons/32x32/apps/kuser.png /usr/share/YaST2/theme/openSUSE/icons/48x48/apps/kuser.png For the ktip icon I discovered usage in /usr/share/desktop-directories/suse-edutainment-astronomy.directory /usr/share/desktop-directories/suse-internet-dialup.directory which I will adapt myself once the icon got renamed. I didn't yet discover a place where the kuser icon is used. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247294 ------- Comment #1 from coolo@novell.com 2007-02-21 04:48 MST ------- if it's not used in yast's .desktop files, it should be just removed from yast themes. and desktop-data should bring its own icons if they are not in hicolor. Everything else is screwed -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If I remove that path completely, that bug will be reintroduced. I can make a workaround now and rename the files that are actually conflicting (*/ktip.png and */kuser.png), but for sure sooner or later name clashes will reoccur. Coolo, what is the general strategy for this? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

So either you put them in some subdir and use Yast/icon in the .desktop file or you rename them to yast_ktip /usr/share/icons/hicolor/*/apps is where everyone and its grandma install its icons too and so conflicts need to be avoided at all costs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247294 ------- Comment #6 from sh@novell.com 2007-02-21 08:01 MST ------- I just checked: Most YaST2 icons already have a yast2- prefix. There is only a small number left that don't have it. On the long run that means that we have to rename the remaining icons consistently. That OTOH means that the .desktop files that refer to those icons have to be changed, too. And those .desktop files belong to all the YaST2 module packages, meaning the respective package maintainers will have to do it and re-submit each individual package. For a quick fix, I will rename the two conflicting ones above. The real fix will be a lot more expensive. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247294 sh@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|ASSIGNED |RESOLVED Resolution| |FIXED ------- Comment #7 from sh@novell.com 2007-02-21 09:50 MST ------- Checking all the YaST2 .desktop files I found that they all consistently use a yast- prefix for their icons. I also renamed the icons used for the desktop selection: kde.png -> yast-kde.png gnome.png -> yast-gnome.png The only icons left over now are those used for popups: msg_info.png msg_warning.png msg_error.png All the others without a prefix I deleted. From what I can see they are obsolete.
