[Bug 1039193] New: updating Tumbleweed using same Tumbleweed DVD: "incompatible product".."send error message"
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1039193 Bug ID: 1039193 Summary: updating Tumbleweed using same Tumbleweed DVD: "incompatible product".."send error message" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: kohlhz@t-online.de QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 725098 --> http://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=725098&action=edit install protocol Updating OpenSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_6400 using same DVD and all update repositories gave message (~product is incompatible, the update will fail). Cause for update from DVD: update kernel to 4.11.0-3.gcb15206-default, the former install with kernel 4.11.0-1.. was after first boot not bootable anymore. (My hardware: AMD Ryzen + AMD Polaris) At the end of install, the install routine gave the message, I should make an error report, and: "attach also /var/log/Yast2/var/log". The updated system is up to now running sufficiently (but after some kernel panics at boot). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the y2log:
2017-05-15 18:21:15 <1> install(3812) [Ruby] clients/update_proposal.rb:539 Update compatibility: Update.ProductsCompatible: true, Update.products_incompatible: false, update_not_possible: true
From macro_inst_initial.ycp:
{ // // 2017-05-15 18:21:13 UI::ChangeWidget( `id ("filter_text"), `Value, "" ); // YInputField "" UI::ChangeWidget( `id ("addon_repos"), `CurrentItem, "(http://download.opensuse.org/update/tumbleweed/|/)" ); // YMultiSelectionBox "Liste der Repositories" UI::ChangeWidget( `id ("addon_repos"), `SelectedItems, ["(http://download.opensuse.org/update/tumbleweed/|/)", "(http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/|/)", "(http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/non-oss/|/)", "(http://download.opensuse.org/source/tumbleweed/repo/oss/|/)", "(http://download.opensuse.org/debug/tumbleweed/repo/oss/|/)"] ); // YMultiSelectionBox "Liste der Repositories" // UI::MakeScreenShot( "/tmp/yast2-0014" ); UI::FakeUserInput( `next ); return; } So to me this looks as if it simply checks if an update is possible with compatible products (which says "true" - see above) and with checking the version number - which of course is the same; you came from Tumbleweed, and you want to upgrade to Tumbleweed. The officially supported upgrade paths are described here: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Tumbleweed_upgrade Unfortunately, it does not specify anything about *which* Tumbleweed ISO to use to start the upgrade from. I am not sure if using the same one you installed the old version with is supported; we'll have to check that. But anyway, booting from that ISO would not really improve anything over a simple "zypper dup" in the shell since you are basically using the same kernel (or even an older one) to boot from and to upgrade with as the kernel you already have installed. We recommend booting from the ISO you want to upgrade to because that ISO might come with a newer and better kernel, base utilities and YaST; but that is not true in your case. It's all the same you already have (in the best case), or typically (due to regular Tumbleweed package updates) even older versions. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
