[Bug 292022] New: grub error after kernel update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=292022 Summary: grub error after kernel update Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mgogoulos@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Hi there, I've noticed that after a kernel update with YOU tool, grub doesn't take into account if the default entry on menu.lst is changed. Thus, if for example we are upgrading from 2.6.18.8-0.3 to 2.6.18.8-0.5, and the entry default != 0, then on the first reboot the system won't be able to boot, since grub has added info for the new kernel as the first entry, and then tries to boot what is represented by the default entry, however this kernel is replaced and doesn't exist. I guess this is widely known, so maybe there should be a check after a kernel update, ensuring that the system can find the newly installed kernel , or even simpler putting 0 to the default entry, so that the system can start.
