[Bug 305405] New: install fails on ThinkPad T43
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=305405 Summary: install fails on ThinkPad T43 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: PC OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: gholmer@ameritech.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Before the first install screen appears, I get the message "Could not find the openSUSE Repository. Activating manual setup program." I don't think it's the DVD because I used the same DVD to do an install on a desktop machine and can also read it fine from a copy of openSUSE 10.2 on a different partition on this laptop. I tried to get the YaST logs, but by the time he's dropped back to the text screen, /var/log/YaST2 is empty. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

My network based install failed on my T43 when it couldn't find the hard disk; adding that boot parameter made it fall back to the ata_piix module which let the disk be recognized. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The ahci module is not working properly with the SATA controller in the T43, as none of the devices attached to it are recognized. However, the ata_piix module works with this chipset. I'm assuming you're the right contact for this since you added the libata support to our kernel. Steve, please boot the kernel without the brokenmodules parameter. After the failure, switch to command console (f9). Connect and mount a usb disk to /mnt. 'lsscsi' comes handy when trying to determine which device node to use. If disk detection has failed, usb disk would probably be /dev/sda1. After mounting, please do.. # hwinfo --all > /mnt/hwinfo.log # cp /var/log/boot.msg /mnt # dmesg > /mnt/dmesg.log And post the files here.
