[Bug 446142] New: battery information broken on MSI PR200 (again)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=446142 User jmatejek@novell.com added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=446142#c1 Summary: battery information broken on MSI PR200 (again) Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jmatejek@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- beta5's default kernel limetka:~ # uname -a Linux limetka 2.6.27.5-2-default #1 SMP 2008-11-11 15:15:33 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux limetka:~ # cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/ alarm info state limetka:~ # cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/* present: no present: no present: no This happens "some of the time". When i start opensuse directly after restarting from Windows the battery is visible. In ubuntu, i could reproduce the bug about half the time, i have installed opensuse only an hour or so ago, and so far the battery went missing every time, except when restarted from win. it appears that the latest kernel disables acpi polling mode, which was so far the only reliable way to get correct battery reading for this machine. However, the interrupt mode appears to sometimes work correctly and sometimes not at all - as opposed to previous situation, where the interrupt mode would work all the time, but with lots of failures and quirks. See also bug 334005. more details can be found in launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/147560 bugfix that caused this (in ubuntu it's a regression, not sure about opensuse) : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/270017 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I added the patch from Comment #4. You can test a kernel from here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/x86_64/kernel-default-base.rpm + ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/x86_64/kernel-default.rpm You still have to wait an hour or so, check: rpm -qp --changelog |less for this change: Thu Dec 4 02:04:56 CET 2008 - trenn@suse.de
Please reopen if ec_intr=0 still does not work.
i will try it sometime tomorrow. however, i think that it might be a good idea to keep this open until a "proper" fix is ready (in 11.2), no? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

i think that it might be a good idea to keep this open until a "proper" fix is ready (in 11.2), no? Alexey is the mainline EC maintainer, he takes care that we have the best EC support mainline and on OpenSUSE. But thanks for hint and especially for he bugreport.
