https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238997 Summary: X crashes when I try to switch xrandr gets called when the user switched to another virtual terminal Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: dupuis.dominic@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I got the same kind of problem with 10.2. Here's my configuration: - KDE desktop - XGL (with 3D desktop effects) - Nvidia driver (RPM package for 10.2) I loose my session when I switch to another one via ctrl-alt-F8 or the KDE menu to start or switch to another user session... If you need help to test something (logs, patch, etc...), I'm available. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

But most of the time, I always lost my original session when I try to go back to it... Since I use the 3D desktop effects, my display manager is "gdm" under KDE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Matthias, isn't this a duplicate?
I don't know about this bug yet. I have no clue how the NVidia driver behaves if there are multiple Xserver running with multiple OpenGL contexts. Maybe Andy can clarify whether this is supported at all? (In reply to comment #1)

This is not related. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238997 ------- Comment #5 from aritger@nvidia.com 2007-01-31 11:14 MST ------- Hi Matthias. In general, it *should* work with the NVIDIA driver to run different X servers on different VTs, and run GL applications on each. It's not the most robust path through the driver, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are bugs today. - Andy -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is just as I thought, there's probably a race condition somewhere. Given the complexity of graphics drivers this is no wonder, as typically there is (has been) no real use case for that. So basically this scenario is not supported from our side. Either activate Xgl, *or* use user switching - or don't be surprised by server crashes. Closing as WONTFIX. Maybe a later NVidia driver behaves differently, but there's no guarantee. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
