[Bug 382428] New: WLAN deactivated after init 3
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=382428 Summary: WLAN deactivated after init 3 Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: zajec5@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer Sometimes I need to restart my X server (changing driver, enabling dri, switching to/from XAA/EXA, etc.). I use KNetworkManager to connect to my network using b43 driver. After typing init 3 X goes down but unfortunately the same happens to WiFi connection. It didn't happen in openSUSE 10.3 and AFAIK it doesn't have to happen as NetworkManager is X server independent, right? Lines that show in NetworkManager log after switching to init 3: Apr 22 18:46:43 linux NetworkManager: <info> Deactivating device wlan0. Apr 22 18:46:43 linux NetworkManager: <info> wlan0: canceled DHCP transaction, dhclient pid 4333 Apr 22 18:46:44 linux NetworkManager: <info> Clearing nscd hosts cache. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you want to have a wireless connection without X you should set it up using Yast. NetworkManager should then use this connection. If you set a connection up using nm-applet or KNetworkManager, NetworkManager will bring that connection down as soon as the applet disappears (e.g. logout). Tambet, is that correct? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you have problems setting it up please report that in a new bug report. The reported behavior is intended -> Closing as INVALID.
