[Bug 682825] New: Plasmoid YaWP doesn't save timezone
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=682825 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=682825#c0 Summary: Plasmoid YaWP doesn't save timezone Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: pilotgi@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 I added plasmoid-yawp-0.3.6-1.1 from the KDE Extra repo to my desktop. It works as expected except for the timezone. I have added the cities wichita, ks with noaa as the provider and garden city, ks with wunderground as the provider. Neither of these entries will save the correct time zone. Wichita keeps defaulting to America/Adak and Garden city defaults to America/Denver. The correct timezone should be in the US Central time zone. Changes to these settings aren't saved. I contacted the developer and was told that, when compiled from source, this plasmoid does not exhibit this bug and the problem could be with openSUSE's packaging. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: Timezones should be saved. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I add a "Garden City ks" entry from wunderground and try to change the timezone, I pick one which is different but I don't actually see anything to indicate that the timezone has changed or not. I suppose this will only show when the day changes to night possibly. If I go back to settings and select "change timezone" it displays the default again but this is most probably normal. Could you point out what the "timezone" is actually used for. The time zones appear to be taken from kde. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I checked yawp after the updates it listed the correct time zones for my selected cities. Under the settings pane with locations highlighted, the columns are: Location, Provider, Last Update, and Timezone. Now all the timezones are correct. When I click on the set timezone tab for one of the cities, say Wichita,Ks, the pop up window says preselected America/Adak with a drop down menu for all the American cities. This is confusing since the preselected timezone and the one shown under the Timezone column, is America/Chicago, which is the central timezone and includes Wichita. So for now, yawp is showing the correct timezones for my cities, but the pop up window for 'Set Timezone' is showing a different preselected timezone. Am I wrong is assuming that 'preselected' means user selected? This is a little confusing, at least for me. I don't know if the timezone setting is that critical for the weather, but since it's there, I figured it ought to be set to the right one. And now it appears to be working. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There were some updates to KDE this morning. When I checked yawp after the updates it listed the correct time zones for my selected cities.
Under the settings pane with locations highlighted, the columns are:
Location, Provider, Last Update, and Timezone.
Now all the timezones are correct.
I've tried setting Cape Town International to Indian/Mahe (Seychelles) which I know is GMT +4, SAST = GMT +2 therefore I would expect to see a time two hours ahead of my local time but the last update time remains on SAST although the timezone is on Indian/Mahe. The Accuweather satellite image always has an update time called EDT so that wouldn't change anyway. There's a possibility that one of the other providers states the time that the current weather conditions were sampled but apart from this I cannot think of a use for timezones. I think timezones are part of a feature that is wip for yawp, I build svn yawp from time to time usually for bug fixes, using it myself (Cape Town is a place of extreme changeable weather and I use a motorcycle for transport) I generally pick up bugs before it releases. If you could find the time to contact the developers to find out what the timezones are used for I would appreciate it as I have a high workload atm with packages I maintain. I will meanwhile build the latest svn and see if I can pick up some relevant info from the log.

Your yawp release number, 1.1, would indicate that you are using stock 11.4 kde 4.6.0 and I'm running KDF kde 4.6.1 with the same results as you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It has a few fixes but the time zone's are saved and I still can't see why they even exist. I've submitted it to KDE:Extra and I see it's been accepted so you should be able to update. Take note that you either have to log off/log in, restart or delete yawp and then add it again after updating because it is running all the time that kde is. It displays "Version 0.3.7_git" in the about box. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
