[Bug 948914] New: During installation with KDE as default the installer switches back to start after installing "image KDE"
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=948914 Bug ID: 948914 Summary: During installation with KDE as default the installer switches back to start after installing "image KDE" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 42.1 Beta 1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: M.Peters40@kpnplanet.nl QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 650247 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=650247&action=edit Screen Terminal 3 (alt-F3) Installing openSuse 42.1 Beta 1 with all the defaults selected. (only change language to "Dutch") Try to install KDE All went well until the images gets installed. After installing the image "KDE" the installation switches back to the start and to "text mode" After selection the defaults (in text mode!) the installation starts over and again, after installing image "KDE" switches back to the begin and in text mode and keeps repeating this! The terminals on 2, 5, 6 and 9 are useless (do not accept any key!) After selecting "Expert" -> "Start shell" I do get a shell and I can enter some commands. There is a y2log and a y2start.log but I have no knowledge how to retrieve them from the system in this state. Made some pictures from the resulting screens on terminal 3 en terminal 4 and the last page from the y2log file (very big file!) and 2 screens from the complete y2start.log. See attachments with title "Screen Terminal 3 (alt-F3)", "Screen Terminal 4 (alt-F4)", "Screen y2log last page", "Screen y2start.log page 1" and "Screen y2start.log page 2" -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So the medium could not be mounted. Interestengly, the kde-x86_64.tar.xz image was deployed correctly just before this problematic image:
2015-10-15 17:06:47 <1> 192.168.2.10(4138) [Ruby] modules/ImageInstallation.rb:294 Untarring image kde-x86_64.tar.xz (kde-x86_64.tar.xz) to /mnt ... 2015-10-15 17:06:47 <1> 192.168.2.10(4138) [zypp++] ExternalProgram.cc(start_program):249 Executing '/bin/mount' '-t' 'iso9660' '-o' 'ro' '/dev/disk/by-id/ata-SONY_DVD_RW_AW-G170A' '/mnt/var/tmp/AP_0xt0SVTF' 2015-10-15 17:06:47 <1> 192.168.2.10(4138) [zypp++] ExternalProgram.cc(start_program):412 pid 5924 launched 2015-10-15 17:06:48 <1> 192.168.2.10(4138) [zypp++] ExternalProgram.cc(checkStatus):513 Pid 5924 successfully completed 2015-10-15 17:06:48 <1> 192.168.2.10(4138) [zypp++] Mount.cc(Status):262 exit code: 0
That's really strange, maybe there is a HW problem or the medium is broken. Boot from the medium and select the "Check Installation Media" menu item to verify it.
Please attach the "dmesg" output to see the error details as suggested in the "mount" error message.
BUILD 0186 (old DVD) (Beta 1) Did a "Check Installation Media" returned with: "No Errors Found" Wrote the same ISO to a USB stick and tried to install... Went without any problems, installation worked just fine. Wrote the same ISO to a new DVD did a "Check Installation Media" returned with: "No Errors Found" tried to install from the DVD and the same problem occurred. BUILD 0235 (RC 1) Wrote ISO to DVD did a "Check Installation Media" returned with: "No Errors Found". Install went without any problems The DVD from Build 0185 looks faulty (2 times). The media check program is not smart enough to detect the problem. (Does everyone install from USB? Or am I the only one with this problem?) Now the problem "went away" in build 0235 are you still interested in the dmesg log? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
