[Bug 787572] New: mis-feature of the year: "5.6. systemd: Cleaning Directories (/tmp and /var/tmp)"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=787572 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=787572#c0 Summary: mis-feature of the year: "5.6. systemd: Cleaning Directories (/tmp and /var/tmp)" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0) Gecko/20111216 Firefox/9.0 SeaMonkey/2.6 According to openSUSE 12.2's Release Notes ("5.6. systemd: Cleaning Directories (/tmp and /var/tmp)"), systemd cleans /tmp and /var/tmp using it's very own rules. Unfortunately this is also true for openSUSE 12.1. While in principle it is a good feature to clean up those directories on more or less public servers, home users may still prefer to keep some stuff around there. Personally I've been bitten by cleaning /tmp. It was too late when I realized that it happened. Even more later I found out who did it. systemd! Very bad! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use openSUSE 12.1 or newer 2. Have some manually created content in /tmp Actual Results: content is removed from /tmp Expected Results: If content is removed from /tmp according to some new rules, these should be very clearly advirtised before they become active. Still better: being disabled until manually activated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't think we will update 12.1 documentation about systemd. Doc team ?
No, yes, I'd like to stay away from updating 12.1 release notes. Anyway, the feature is already documented in the (updated) 12.1 release notes: https://www.suse.com/releasenotes/i386/openSUSE/12.1/RELEASE-NOTES.en.html#1... ss. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
