[Bug 1008498] New: Leap 42.2 RC2 -- Release Notes -- entry for Btrfs initialisation after initial installation boot
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1008498 Bug ID: 1008498 Summary: Leap 42.2 RC2 -- Release Notes -- entry for Btrfs initialisation after initial installation boot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Release Notes Assignee: sknorr@suse.com Reporter: bugrprt21882@online.de QA Contact: lnussel@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 700658 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=700658&action=edit Btrfs journal entries (3 boots since installation) About 10 minutes after a default Leap 42.2 RC2 installation (with Btrfs system partition) has booted for the 1st time, GUIs such as KDE suddenly "freeze". This seems to be due to an initialisation process with respect to the Btrfs filesystem used for the system partition. As described in the Forums thread for Leap 42.2 RC2 discussion, what seems to be going on is as follows: - At about 9 minutes after the initial boot, a "mandb" process began running with about 41% CPU, sometimes 46% CPU. - At about 10 minutes after the initial boot, a "gzip" process began running with 100% CPU usage. - At about 11 minutes after the initial boot, a "btrfs" process began running, also with 100% CPU usage. After about 40 seconds, about 7 "kworker" processes began running with a total of 70% CPU usage. - At about 12 minutes after the initial boot everything quietened down. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Possibly, a Release Notes entry something like the following, is needed: When the system first boots after installation (assuming that, a Btrfs system partition has been created), it is advisable to wait about 15 minutes before beginning to use the system. -- There are some CPU intensive system initialisation routines which need to run before the system can be used without any interruption. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Leap 42.2 RC2 is installed in an Oracle VirtualBox VM -- Version: 5.0.28-59.1 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
