Is there any widget running which might be reading running processes to show system load and such?

Yes, there is a system monitor applet in my panel.

No, it doesn't help. The strace output seems to be different from the previous one now. I don't know the reason though. It just polls for some fds with very low timeouts. And then tries to read a fd which is not ready.
