[Bug 239773] New: TIFM Modules not activated in Kernel-Config
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239773 Summary: TIFM Modules not activated in Kernel-Config Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com QAContact: qa@suse.de The Modules for TIFM_CORE and MMC_TIFM_SD are not activated and thus not built. TIFM is the driver for the Texas Instruments FlashMedia CardReaders found in several notebooks. Activating it gives a good bunch of new card readers supported. (I tested mine with the available driver 0.6, which was before the merge in the kernel.. back then it worked.. so I assume the built-in also works) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Plus I am not sure if I know how to do that in kernel CVS. Are those drivers needed on i386 or are they useful on x86-64, too? Do we have someone with that hardware? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239773 ------- Comment #4 from dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com 2007-01-30 01:05 MST ------- That chip is used in several notebooks, like: HP/Compaq dv1040us HP/Compaq nc6120 HP/Compaq nc6320 HP/Compaq nx6125 HP/Compaq nx8220 HP/Compaq nw8240 HP/Compaq zd8004AP So you see, it is indeed used in some models on the market (and the list is not complete) They are useful for i386 and x86_64. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239773 ------- Comment #11 from behlert@novell.com 2007-02-14 05:31 MST ------- We'll look at this for 10.3, but the current version of the driver is not very bugfree - don't expect the driver to be activated in the early alphas. But we will keep it in mind. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239773 ------- Comment #12 from dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com 2007-02-14 05:34 MST ------- Whz not activate it and get reports for it? Or do you have enough 'testers' to find it? If you don't offer it activated by default, maybe you can offer a KMP with it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239773 ------- Comment #13 from behlert@novell.com 2007-02-14 05:58 MST ------- Well, we know - as upstream does, too - that there are bugs. Some of these can only be worked on upstream. _All_ tested machines here failed to work with the current version - so reports would mostly result in 'does not work'. We will activate as soon as we see a chance that at least with some machines it is working. Please understand that we try to reduce the amount of overhead work required ('We know it is not working, yes, and we activated it nevertheless'). Between the possibility to get blamed for not activating it, and getting blamed and overloaded with bugreports for activating it while it is not going - we take the easier choice :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239773 ------- Comment #14 from dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com 2007-02-14 06:03 MST ------- Of course.. that's completely understandable... especially if you say that all machines you tested did not work. I'll go for own modules then, also continue to make some tests with the 'original' driver (before the kernel merge) found at tifmxx.berlios.de (which I was successfully using on openSUSE 10.2 btw!) Thanks for your good work. Let's hope it's getting sorted out upstream soon. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I asked Alex, the author of it about merging it upstream. Driver version 0.8 can already be found in the -mm tree. Do we have chances to get that driver in 10.3 included? Or would KMPs be an alternative to offer at least support for it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I wouldn't bet on it that this will be 0.8 :) Thanks for the information regarding 0.8. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

And yes, if this doesn't work, you can easily create a KMP for it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
