I installed using mostly the defaults into a VM on my desktop machine and used YaST to configure the networking to use the network manager. When I select the widget the icon shows a piece of paper with a question mark, indicating that the icon is missing. The only way I can get the network manager to run is to type "plasmoidviewer org.kde.networkmanagement" I have made sure that all of the network manager components are installed since I need this for PPTP VPN functionality. Note that the VM is running on OpenSUSE 11.3 and I am using KVM. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install OpenSUSE 12.1 into a VM then install all of the updates using defaults (though I set no separate partition for /home). Use KDE 4 as the desktop. 2. In YaST configure the network adapter to use Network Manager instead of YAST 3. No network manager icon in KDE 4. Actual Results: Unable to configure the network after switching. Expected Results: I expect to be able to see the network manager icon or at least be able to install the widget. I am able to reproduce this every time. That worked. Adding the network management widget doesn't work, however.
So the PNM item is not checked in the list? What's the means about widget doesn't work?
Shouldn't this be enabled by selecting the network manager in YaST?
It does. _IIRC_ PNM should be shown in the tray either network control by network manager or YaST, I am not sure why PNM not shown in the tray for you. I test a fresh 12.1 install in my VM, PNM icon works fine.
