It does not start at boot time (if selected) and it cannot be invoked manually. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Configure Samba through the YaST GUI with a workgroup and hostname 2. Set Samba to start at boot time 3. Attempt to start Samba Actual Results: Samba fails to start. Expected Results: Samba daemon should start as expected. Clicking it and then clicking "Done" exits, but the next time you go in to the "Settings" dialogue it shows as unticked again. There does appear to be a problem however, because if you try to click on "Configure" next to "Set Profile Modes", the GUI waits at that point indefinitely. YaST -> System -> System Services (runlevel) Are both services enabled (yes/no)? Most important is the smb service. Please modify /etc/samba/smb.conf an put a "#" char in front of the include line of the /etc/samba/dhcp.conf file. In addition to the chkconfig command output I like to see the output of: service nmb status and service smb status Also please try the packages as we provide them via the Open Build Service network:samba:STABLE repository. The following information was appended to the samba log file: [2011/08/22 03:27:37, 0] smbd/server.c:1134(main) smbd version 3.5.8-2516-SUSE-SL12.1-i386 started.
