[Bug 745227] New: Gnome doesn't behave as promised
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745227 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745227#c0 Summary: Gnome doesn't behave as promised Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: HP OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: zscherni@arcor.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; de) Presto/2.8.131 Version/11.11 On http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE/opensuse-startup/art.gno... there you can see a nice GNOME-desktop with panel at the bottom. Unfortunately with suse12.1 there came a new GNOME which is unuseable. There is no GNOME-panel as described at the above mentioned site. One doesn't find no possibility to configure shortcuts. Right-clicks don't open menus. (Windows have only a cross to close them in the upper right corner, no icon to maximize/minimize them.) It is OK to make something new. Maybe somebody likes it. It is not OK to abolish things, thousands of people worked many years productive with. I miss the possibility to decide, if I get a well known GNOME-desktop or the new one (which I don't like). (At the login i can chose session just GNOME - there should be alternative GNOME new desktop or GNOME old desktop!) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

See http://www.gnome.org/gnome-3/ There is a so-called fall-back mode which mimics the look-and-feel of gnome2 to a certain extend, but not completely. You can install the "gnome2-look-and-feel" package which will offer you that choice at the login prompt. Beware though: this is not guaranteed to remain in future versions: all development efforts are concentrated on GNOME3, which, frankly, you should just keep using for a while; most people tend to like it after a few days. As for the bug, I'm assigning it to 'Documentation', as ultimately that's actually what is wrong in this case. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745227 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745227#c2 --- Comment #2 from Sebastian Zschernig <zscherni@arcor.de> 2012-02-06 12:55:09 UTC --- I think, the bug is not just about documentation, but the bug is called Gnome 3. Like there is another bug called kde4. While kde3 had a good printing-system, quanta plus and other great things, kde4 became a nearly not useable bad joke. The step from Gnome2 to Gnome 3 seems to be similar. Also the gnome2-look-and-feel doesn't give me menus with right-click. There is still the gnome3-panel but additionally a gnome2-panel. But I don't find a possibility to customize the gnome2-panel. So sorry - I think I won't like it at all and I won't spend some days with it. Even if it is true, that most people tend to like it after a few days; I regret all the others. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

User perception and opinion... not a bug
