You can have a patch named 'software-management-fixes' which would require upgrade of several software management packages, e.g. libzypp, zypper, yast2-pacakger, etc... The problem here is that of the KDE4 packages (kde4-kopete) provides a symbol named 'kdenetwork3-InstantMessenger.i586' (which essentially means you have the symbol 'installed'), verion < 3.5.9-39.2, and the kdenetwork3-InstantMessenger patch conflicts with that version (in order to get it updated). You would not jump into this problem if you did not upgrade to KDE4 - once you decide to make such substantial change to the system, you must expect dependency problems with updates meant for the original 11.0 system. I'm afraid there is not much we can do here. Currently you have to choose either to stop using 'zypper up' to get updates for 11.0, or apply patches using 'zypper install -t patch patch1 patch2 ...' (or using YaST Online Update). In the future, you will be able to lock the patch you don't want to apply with 'zypper addlock foo -t patch' and the patch will not be shown anymore as available (see bug 420606).
