[Bug 726272] New: There is no "current" symlink for the http://download.opensuse.org/update/ site
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=726272 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=726272#c0 Summary: There is no "current" symlink for the http://download.opensuse.org/update/ site Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Infrastructure AssignedTo: mrueckert@suse.com ReportedBy: gregkh@suse.com QAContact: lrupp@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Ideally, one can set up their openSUSE box to point their repos always at the "most current" release, and never have to touch them again. This works today if you use the http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/openSUSE-current/ repo, but there is no corrisponding symlink for the updates. So could someone please create a symlink at http://download.opensuse.org/update/openSUSE-current/ that points at the 11.4 update repo now, and, most importantly, remember to update that symlink when the http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/openSUSE-current/ symlink changes. This will allow openSUSE to work in a mode much like other distros, where users never have to touch their repos and are always ensured that they have the latest version. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Lars the symlinks are there? I don't see them in the http://download.opensuse.org/update/ directory at this point in time.
Ups, sorry. Good that you checked that: I forgot to update our staging server... Fixed now. The symlinks should not go away again. But we really only need one link, openSUSE-current, as there is no difference between that and the openSUSE-stable link. So could you delete "openSUSE-stable", and also delete the openSUSE-stable link in the download.opensuse.org/distribution/ ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So could you delete "openSUSE-stable", and also delete the openSUSE-stable link in the download.opensuse.org/distribution/ ?
So let us stay with both links and be consistent in the update directory. As both are just symlinks, it should not harm anybody. If the documentation just points to one of the links, we might be able to declare the other one as deprecated once Hurt is released... ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Plus we will be the first Rolling release who actually delivers something like that that, so we could use that both in 12.1(since this will happen within the framework of 12.1 release) and in Tumbleweed features and it will be great for promotion -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

While there are still possibilities to improve the way users upgrade to tumbleweed (including creating the ability of a ymp file to *remove* repositories), this bug can be fixed.
