I need to reboot. Usually at that point, I get a second splash screen, that enhances on the full screen while the first splash screen has black borders left and right. Afterwards X gets started fine. But at the time of the 2nd splash screen there is not display at all. You cannot switch to console and you do not see the password prompt for mounting encrypted devices (like I do have).
