We published a open-vm-tools 8.8.1 build in Virtualization:VMware repositories (for up to openSUSE 12.1, currently fails build for Factory).
Could you please verify if the problem is solved in this package?

The 'issue' is that vmci exports symbols but they are not correctly transferred between the various build stages. After the version number of the update (8.8.1) is less than the old version (2011.05.27-420096) the software management doesn't recognize the patch as an update.
