[Bug 552527] New: Stuttering sound in Gnome
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=552527 Summary: Stuttering sound in Gnome Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mfroese@uni-koblenz.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.23) Gecko/20090410 SUSE/1.1.18-0.1 SeaMonkey/1.1.18 The sound of games (such as solarwolf) and players (vlc) is heavily stuttering within the gnome-desktop. The playback of mp4-Files and flv-Files via vlc starts in acceptable quality, but after minutes (or even seconds) the sound begins to stutter. This effect gets worse over the time. After a logout and a new login (or a reboot) it is better for a little while. These sound problems are not to be observed within the KDE-, fwvm- or Windowmaker-windowmanagers. There vlc and all games work fine. I studied all log files I can think of - I haven't discovered any hint to the problem. Please let me know, which data you need. Thank you! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install gnome as default (with gdm) 2.Start any sound application, e.g. solarwolf or vlc 3.Sound stuttering shows up after minutes/seconds; this is getting worse until the session is closed Actual Results: It is possible (but I'm guessing here) that skipping and jumping between songs within vlc might accelerate the sound quality deterioration. I am, hovewer, quite sure that the problem has nothing to do with the system load (I started several appications within KDE - no problem there). As far as I can tell, I could find nothing of relevance in those logfiles I am aware of (I searched through /var/log/messages and other files within that directory, and the output of 'dmesg'). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I cannot provide you with that right now, but it is videos downloaded via "keepvid.com" from youtube. However, once the problem appears, it affects all sound applications and only a logout/reboot helps getting rid of the problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not likely, you have already upgraded to newer versions of openSUSE, which had a lot more bug fixes. We believe that this specific bug has been fixed during one of the release cycles; as such, I close the bug as 'FIXED'. Should you be able to reproduce this issue on a newer openSUSE version, please feel to report it again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
