Currently, libvirt is configured with --with-xen so it has xen support (obviously needed), but unfortunately this causes it to be linked with libxenstore. Thus the xen-libs dependency. You can still manage qemu/kvm instances without having the rest of xen though. Next installed vm-install: xen67:~ # zypper in vm-install .. Now xen-tools and xen-libs installed. vm-install starts fine and I can progress to the point of actually starting the install. When selecting 'OK' to start the install, I get an error dialog claiming "The hypervisor is not running" (will attach screenshot). So it seems to be working as you expect. Do you have libvirt installed and libvirtd running? You can use it to manage non-xen VMs. At this time, vm-install cannot be used to create qemu/kvm guests. Look for this feature in openSUSE11.2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I never did "rclibvirtd start"
That could be why. Again, I expect a user visible error message for that.
Right, but it wouldn't do much good now. So if you got an error message saying "start libvirtd" next you would get and error saying "hypervisor is not running". Point is, vm-install does not work in non-xen environment in 11.1 Reassigning to Bart since he is currently making vm-install work with libvirt - and hence virtualization technologies other than xen. vm-install will need to ensure libvirtd is running. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
