https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=237489 Summary: Installation fails on Asus Crosshair Motherboard Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: andreas.schaefer@madplanet.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I tried to install OpenSuSE 10.2 on an Asus Crosshair Motherboard with a Seagate SATA 300GB hard disk. I have the same problem on the 64-bit as well as on the 32-bit version. I am using the DVD rather than the CDs. Installing OpenSuSE works with NO-ACPI boot option, then the system boots and the installation screen comes up. On the 'Analyzing the computer' screen a dialog with the message 'No hard disks were found ...' and I can only aboard the installation. Installing Fedora 6 works perfectly when using the NO-ACPI boot option during the installation so my system does work. Trying to install OpenSuSE 10.1 (32-bit) fails during booting the installation kernel during the hardware detection. On a side note: using an external USB DVD drive fails because the installer cannot find the DVD even though I could boot from it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=237489 ------- Comment #3 from andreas.schaefer@madplanet.com 2007-01-23 21:57 MST ------- I am sorry but somehow my internal DVD drive stopped working and SuSE rejects any USB drive therefore I cannot reproduce the problem nor save the y2logs. I attached the boot.msg file which I got when booting SuSE 10.2 on an internal IDE hard disk. As you can see the 'sata_nv' driver does berserk: <7>sata_nv 0000:00:0d.0: version 2.0 <7>PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:0d.0 to 64 <6>ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x9F0 ctl 0xBF2 bmdma 0xDC00 irq 161 <6>ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x970 ctl 0xB72 bmdma 0xDC08 irq 161 <3>sata_nv 0000:00:0d.0: irq 161 request failed: -38 Even though I could successfully boot SuSE 10.2 the system is not showing any USB drives (DVD drive as well as a hard disks). As soon as I have a working IDE DVD I will try to save the y2logs and attach to this bug report. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=237489 ------- Comment #6 from andreas.schaefer@madplanet.com 2007-01-24 13:10 MST ------- I am sorry that I bugged you with this report. A BIOS update of the motherboard did do the trick. Nevertheless Fedora 6 as well as Windows were able to use the SATA drive but OpenSuSE 10.2 did not. I still cannot belief that Asus ships a Motherboard with a crappy BIOS. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=237489 teheo@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID ------- Comment #7 from teheo@novell.com 2007-01-25 00:27 MST ------- Many BIOSes used to be shipped with faulty IRQ routing table. It seems giving noapic (not acpi it's apic) should have remedied your problem. AFAIK, windows doesn't use apic on up machine. Not sure about fedora but if fedora is using UP kernel during and after installation, there's a good chance it doesn't use apic on UP setup. Opensuse now always uses SMP kernel and that's probably why the BIOS bug hits only opensuse. Anyways, I'm resolving this bug as invalid. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
