This was a working config with opensuse 11.4. As per this bug report https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24198, rebuilding the apache source rpm with the CFLAGS changed from O2 to O1. fixes the problem. this is the relevant versions from the apache log file [notice] Apache/2.2.21 (Linux/SUSE) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/1.0.0e PHP/5.3.8 configured any more details, please ask. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. create a vhost ssl site 2. attempt a SSL connection from any browser. 3. exit signal Segmentation fault (11) in the apache error logfile.
